Looking at Smallfield’s league position expectation was high that we would continue our positive start to the season. Closer inspection revealed that they had lost close games to some of the stronger teams in the division and looking at the size of their team, the slow realisation was that we were in for a tough game.
In the first half we rode our luck at the back with Smallfield yet to find their range and a couple of good saves from Will. At the other end our flair players were showing what they can do and only Smallfield’s well drilled offside trap kept the score down to 1-0 – another headed goal from Big Jack.
The second half we were kicking into the wind and Smallfield’s superior strength began to show. They quickly went 2-1 up with indecision in our defence leading to us conceding a couple of soft goals. Increasingly though they were winning the battle in midfield and some excellent passing moves, especially down the left resulted in them eventually scoring 8. The boys to their credit never gave up and Jacob and Lewis scored consolation goals.
Final score 8-3.
