Crawley Down Gatwick U13s vs Willingdon Athletic U13s

Today’s game was a strange one in as much as the 4-0 score line belied what was quite an even game.

The refereeing was influential to an extent and would have been much more of an issue were this not a friendly.

I’d like to focus on what Crawley Down did better than us and as such what we can easily improve when we return to training at Huggetts Lane. Their set piece delivery was very good and created a lot of uncertainty in our box. Their support running was also excellent with a couple of their goals coming at the back post.

Our better players were harder to pick in this game. Matthew was very tenacious and did everything but score. James again was a excellent again, a defender who is faster than most strikers. Joseph was very solid and has learned to position himself to good effect against faster opponents and distribute with both feet (MoM).

Football is a funny game and we were unlucky today. It was good though to see a number of the boys playing in unfamiliar positions and we never gave up trying until the final whistle.

Gutted by the result today ! But not the performance thought the boys played well today especially after a game on Friday !

The old footie pun today was we played well but got nothing they punished us from our mistakes and unfortunately we couldn’t take our chances ⚽️ …. we definitely matched each other for long periods …

I’m happy 😃 and so should you guys 👍lots to take to the training ground when we return to Huggets Lane in 3 weeks !! Player of the Match was a hard one today 3 players today I thought were excellent Matthew 👏 Ollie 👏 …… but it goes to Joesph Herbert.

He has played all across the back line to help us out but playing left back he’s growing into that position and today showed a range of passes with his left foot and was incredibly close to scoring today 👏⚽️⚽️⚽️ well done Joesph
